Central Animal Hospital

Vernon, BC
Central Animal Hospital

Project Summary

Like many veterinary clinic owners, Dr. Keith and Dr. Smith had outgrown their original building. While Central Animal Hospital was already operating at full capacity after only 3 years in their space, its prime location limited expansion possibilities on the existing lot. Solutions had to be highly creative in order to support growth within the constraints of the property.

Our approach

Our goal was to find creative solutions to preserve, as much as possible, the existing structure while doubling the original 2,615 square feet. The planned expansion wrapped around the original building and added a second floor. To allow the clinic to remain operational during construction, we set up temporary facilities and relocated the entire clinic out of their space. This allowed daily operations to continue with minimal disruption, helping maintain client service and business continuity while accelerating construction.

Key features of the new layout include:

  • A separate waiting area for anxious animals
  • Twice as many exam rooms
  • A new surgery suite and dual dentistry room
  • A dedicated pharmacy space
  • A larger retail area
  • A dedicated treatment room, separate from the induction area

Render VS Real

Using our 3D visualization tools, we were able to validate every practical element of the layout before construction began—ensuring optimal flow, function, and comfort. The final result was so true to the renderings, it was hard to tell where the plans ended and reality began.

Feedback

The renovation has brought significant improvements to the clinic’s day-to-day operations. The increased space has enhanced workflow efficiency, reduced congestion, and contributed to a more organized environment. The redesigned layout has also created a noticeably calmer atmosphere for both pets and their owners. Staff feel better supported in their roles, and clients have responded positively to the changes in both comfort and service quality. The outdoor staff patio on the second floor overlooking the mountain is also a great addition to allow Central Animal
