Family Pet Health

Family Pet Health

Project Summary

Right from the introduction call we understood the rational behind the project: Create a fear free space that is comforting for pets and nurturing for all users to relocate the Family Pet Health team. Dr. Amy and Michael Shirley were visioners with an ultimate goal: pushing the boundaries of veterinary clinic design with the most fear free hospital that can be designed. We had to translate their vision into a amazing brand new building.

Our approach

Architecture plays a crucial role in shaping how we feel and interact within a space, influencing everything from comfort to efficiency. With Fear Free principles in mind, we stepped outside the box to develop a concept that fosters connection between veterinary staff and clients. The result is a welcoming, thoughtfully organized environment that promotes calm, trust, and wellbeing for all.

Key features of the hospital include:

  • Separated pavilions to support Fear Free principles
  • Outdoor exam areas for flexibility and calm
  • 10 exam rooms, some with direct access from the parking lot
  • Centralized prep areas to reduce interruptions and streamline workflow
  • A spacious team breakroom and a meeting space that accommodates up to 50 people
  • A drive thru garage that double up as a community space and allow to for fearful pets to bet unloaded in a safe space (or examined directly in the back of the car)

Render VS Real

Using our 3D visualization tools, we were able to validate every practical element of the layout before construction began—ensuring optimal flow, function, and comfort. The final result was so true to the renderings, it was hard to tell where the plans ended and reality began.

Feedback

From the moment clients and patients arrive, they step directly into the exam rooms—creating a sense of comfort and familiarity from the start. Natural light and a carefully curated color palette provide a spa-like atmosphere for staff, contributing to a calm and positive work environment. The inclusion of a dedicated call room helps maintain a quiet, focused reception area. Every detail was designed with care, and the result speaks for itself.
